Welcome to Manara Academy Public Charter School.  We warmly greet 460 students from Kindergarten through 8th grade every day. They enter the building eager and ready to learn thanks to the support that they receive from their parents and teachers.

Through the use of Expeditionary Learning, Manara inspires the motivation for our students to learn, engages the teachers, takes students to new levels of focus and effort and transforms our students, parents and teachers to become leaders of their own learning.  Our teachers provide a model that challenges students at all skill levels with high level tasks and active roles in the classroom.

Manara uses the 10 Expeditionary Learning Design Principles to drive their instruction.  The curriculum is designed around rigorous, purposeful, project-based learning expeditions tied to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).  Manara’s learning experience includes a focus on reading and writing through literature and real world texts, a rigorous math instruction, computers to develop students’ research and thinking skills, art program, documentation of student’s work through portfolios, regular out of school fieldwork and the inclusion of experts on our campus.

Manara is currently a Title I school with 54% participating in the National School Lunch Program.  60% of our students currently qualify as English as Second Language Learners.  We currently have 23 different languages spoken on our campus by our students and staff.  Manara currently offers multiple after school clubs ranging from sports to fun to academic.  New for the 2012-2013 school year is our new Middle School location.

We look forward to continuing our success at Manara Academy.  If you have any questions or would like to arrange a tour, please feel free to give us a call or stop by.

Warmest regards,

Michelle Alkhatib

Superintendent/Principal
