Welcome parents! I am honored and humbled to take on the responsibility of leading this organization and, most importantly, to ensure that every student graduates from our public charter school equipped for the challenges of the 21st century and higher level learning institutions. Allow me to be the first one that welcomes you to our school where we utilize the expeditionary learning process that engages your student in actively learning with a focus on higher level cognitive skills. We warmly greet 500 students from Kindergarten through 8th grade every day. They enter the building eager and ready to learn with bright smiling faces, thanks to the support that they receive from their parents and teachers.
As an educational leader, I value learning, and I believe in the importance of student learning, professional learning and organizational learning. We must continue to improve student learning, and the professionals in the system must continue to learn and grow so we can best serve our students. As an organization, we must continue to learn ways to improve our systems and processes. This is challenging work that requires collaboration, respectful working relationships, and a positive attitude. Everything we do and all decisions that we make here at Manara Academy will be based on improving rigor and student achievement.
Our mission and vision is focused on equity and excellence for all students. As a public charter school district, we are responsible for the futures of all students, no matter their background, home situation or family resources. I believe that every student can learn. It is our responsibility to help each and every student to learn, grow, and be challenged to do their very best each and every day. Manara is a wonderfully diverse school that mirrors the real world population. Diversity is a strength at Manara that prepares our students for real world challenges in a collaborative setting.
Through the use of Expeditionary Learning, Manara inspires the motivation for our students to learn, engages the teachers, takes students to new levels of focus and effort and transforms our students, parents and teachers to become leaders of their own learning. Our teachers provide a model that challenges students at all skill levels with high level tasks and active roles in the classroom.
Manara uses the 10 Expeditionary Learning Design Principles to drive their instruction. The curriculum is designed around rigorous, purposeful, project-based learning expeditions tied to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Manara’s learning experience includes a focus on reading and writing through literature and real world texts, a rigorous math instruction, computers to develop students’ research and thinking skills, art program, documentation of student’s work through portfolios, regular out of school fieldwork and the inclusion of experts on our campus.
The board, leadership team and I are currently working together to develop a well-designed strategic plan that will increase our capacity to grow, open a high school and put systems in place that enhance the learning process for all students!
Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions that you may have at 972-905-3827.
